Q. What does an initial design consultation involve?

A. The initial consultation generally takes between one and four hours depending on the size of your project, and it involves walking through the space or spaces in your home that require design. We will review the scope of your project, ask many questions, and make suggestions.

The consultation is usually used as a starting point for a larger design project, although it can also serve as a one-time design session to provide design advice or assist with rearranging a space. The consultation is charged by the hour.

Q. How is the design cost structure determined?

A. We charge by the hour for everything we do with the exception of plan development and renderings, which are charged by the square foot.

Q. What are some pre-consultation factors that should be considered?

A.

• Favorite color(s) and pattern(s)
• Design styles and eras
• Formal or informal?
• Favorite room - why?
• Least favorite room - why?
• Who will use the space(s), and for what purposes?

These are just a few questions to consider. We ask many more questions during the consultation process.

Q. Why choose Design by the Jonathans for your interior design project?

A. We take a fully integrated approach that focuses on layout, appearance, usability, and future uses. Additionally:

• We are easy to work with and dedicated to your satisfaction.
• We are sensitive to your needs, both for the present and for the future.
• We pride ourselves on our prompt responses and attentiveness.
• We take our work seriously.

Q. Is there a trend towards certain colors or color palettes?

A. The 2018 Pantone Color of the Year is: "Ultra Violet"!  The last Color of the Year in the purple family was 2014's "Radiant Orchid", so this selection represents a shift back in that direction.  Ultra Violet is a blue-hued purple, which evokes a sense of royalty.  It is highly saturated, meaning that there is very little gray or white present in the color.  As Pantone says: "Ultra Violet symbolizes experimentation and non-conformity, spurring individuals to imagine their unique mark on the world, and push boundaries through creative outlets."  It's important to understand that while this represents the latest trend in color, you should not be afraid to choose colors that fit your home and your lifestyle. Beautiful design can be accomplished with any color palette, and it's okay to dislike a current trend!
